Donor Support is Advancing Cardiac Care at OSMH

Thanks to the generosity of our community, Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital has enhanced cardiac care with the purchase of two new Exercise Stress Testing Systems. This leading-edge technology is helping patients receive timely diagnoses and high-quality, compassionate care close to home.

Exercise stress testing plays a critical role in assessing how the heart performs during physical activity and is often an important step in diagnosing coronary artery disease, heart rhythm abnormalities, and other exercise-induced cardiac conditions. This non-invasive test provides valuable information that helps healthcare teams determine the safest and most effective treatment plans for patients.

Funded through donor support, OSMH has installed two Exercise Stress Testing units with Trackmaster treadmills, along with blood pressure and blood oxygen saturation (SpO₂) monitoring systems. The equipment also includes wireless patient acquisition modules that are fully integrated with the Cardiology Department’s data management system, allowing for seamless information sharing from patient registration through to physician reporting.

The new technology is already making a meaningful difference in patient care. It supports Acute Cardiac Evaluation Services (ACES) and is also used in partnership with Nuclear Medicine to perform nuclear perfusion studies, helping clinicians identify heart-related concerns earlier and more accurately.

Early detection can be life-changing. Exercise stress testing can help identify narrowed coronary arteries before a heart attack occurs and often guides decisions regarding additional interventions, including coronary angiography or bypass surgery. By providing detailed insight into heart function under stress, this technology helps ensure patients receive the right care at the right time.

For the patients and families who rely on OSMH, access to advanced diagnostic equipment close to home means fewer barriers to care and greater peace of mind during what can be a stressful time.

Because of you, our Cardiology team has the tools to detect heart conditions earlier, guide life-saving treatment decisions, and deliver healthcare excellence closer to home. Every donation we receive makes a difference, and your generosity is helping build a healthier future for our community. Thank you for strengthening cardiac care for families across our region today and for generations to come.Â
