Ian Mishkel appointed President & CEO of the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation
The Board of Directors of the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Ian Mishkel as President & Chief Executive Officer, effective Tuesday, September 8, 2026. Mishkel has served as the Foundation’s Interim President & CEO since March 2026, providing steady leadership and strategic direction during a period of transition.
“The Board’s decision reflects its confidence in Ian’s ability to lead the Foundation into one of the most impactful periods in its history as it prepares to generate support for both today’s healthcare needs and tomorrow’s new hospital,” said Cathy Clark, Chair of the OSMH Foundation Board.
A respected leader in the charitable sector, Mishkel has held senior advancement and fundraising roles at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) and the University of Toronto, helping advance major institutional and healthcare initiatives. Born into a medical family, he has maintained a strong connection to healthcare throughout his career. At the University of Toronto, he worked closely with the Temerty Faculty of Medicine and affiliated teaching hospitals to support transformational healthcare initiatives. At TMU, he served as co-executive lead of the university’s Master Space Plan and Health Strategy, helping lay the groundwork for the planning and eventual launch of its medical school. These experiences have enabled him to successfully bring together healthcare, academic, and philanthropic partners to advance shared goals.

Having lived in Orillia throughout his interim tenure, Mishkel has embraced the community and will be permanently relocating here in the coming months, further strengthening his commitment to the region and the Foundation’s mission.
“I have felt incredibly welcomed by this community since my arrival,” added Mishkel. “I look forward to making Orillia my home and continuing to build relationships across the region.”
With the appointments of Mary Silverthorn as President & CEO of the Hospital and Ian Mishkel as President & CEO of the Foundation, both organizations have completed important leadership transitions and are moving forward with a shared vision for the future. Together with their respective Boards, the Hospital and Foundation are united in advancing exceptional patient care, supporting healthcare innovation, and helping realize a bold vision for healthcare in the region.
