A Heartfelt Thank You for Strengthening Cardiac Care at OSMH

Thanks to the generosity of our incredible donors, Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital is now equipped with four brand‑new electrocardiogram (ECG) carts for our cardiology department. The new carts will provide a vital enhancement to the life-saving cardiac care that Soldiers’ provides every day.

ECG carts are indispensable tools that allow our clinical teams to perform rapid, bedside ECGs, providing real‑time information about heart function for immediate clinical decision‑making. These carts are used throughout the hospital to provide point‑of‑care cardiac assessment. The demand is significant, as Soldiers’ performs an average of 23,000 ECGs every year, and that volume continues to rise steadily.

Two of the new carts will be stationed in the Emergency Department to ensure immediate access the moment a patient arrives with potential cardiac symptoms. This will help ensure that patients presenting with chest pain receive an ECG within 10 minutes of arrival, a critical quality standard for identifying time‑sensitive cardiac emergencies like acute heart attack.

These new ECG carts represent a significant technological advancement for our clinical teams. The modern, more advanced functions of the new cart will allow the team to pull a patient’s previous ECG reports for comparisons and send the ECG electronically to the patient’s chart from anywhere in the building. Overall, they provide faster, more accurate ECG’s with improved capture, analysis and storage to enhance patient care.
