New Bassinets Bring Comfort and Care to OSMH Birthing Unit
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community and the success of Charlee’s Run 2025, the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) Birthing Unit has welcomed 18 brand-new, state-of-the-art bedside bassinets for newborns and their families. These bassinets are now in use across the Birthing Program, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and Paediatric Unit, replacing models that have served families for over 20 years.
These high-quality bassinets provide a safe and secure bed for babies, while offering moms and caregivers easier access for feeding, bonding, and comfort. For mothers recovering from birth, the adjustable height and smooth mobility of these bassinets are essential, making those first moments together even more special.
The new bassinets replace models that have served families for over 20 years. This upgrade ensures that OSMH continues to deliver the highest standard of care for both moms and babies.
Labour and Delivery nurses have already noticed the difference, sharing that the new bassinets maneuver more easily, the dual-access doors make reaching baby’s needs simpler, and the height adjustment improves comfort for both parents and staff.
“These new bassinets have brought greater comfort and a better birthing experience for families and have improved workflow for our team,” said Robin Wanner, Obstetrics Manager. “We are grateful to the Charlee’s Run community and to all those that have supported the health and wellbeing of newborns at OSMH.”
Charlee’s Run is more than an event, it is a movement of compassion and community and a powerful way to honour all those touched by the loss of a little one. Together, we come to remember, to support, and to break the silence surrounding pregnancy and infant loss. All proceeds from this event help to fund vital equipment like these bassinets, ensuring families receive the best possible start to life.
