Orillia Opens Little Loss Library for Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support
October 15th is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. On Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day, we remember the little lives lost far too soon and show our support to those who have experienced a loss.
On October 14th, we officially opened Orillia’s Little Loss Library in the Orillia Public Library’s “bookstore”. The Little Loss Library is a free and discreet resource to parents and families who have experienced pregnancy and/or infant loss. Individuals and families can borrow books without a library card, add messages for others, and donate books that helped them through such a difficult experience.
“This little library is more than just books. It is a place for families to feel less alone. To find support, resources, hope and connection,” said Mallory Holmes, Founder of Charlee’s Run.
“We know that, unfortunately, this library will be visited by countless families who are missing a piece of their hearts; and while no written words will ever stop that pain, it will make them feel seen.”
This project is in collaboration with Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, The Women and Children’s Health Network, Bridget’s Bunnies, and the Orillia Public Library. The Orillia Little Loss Library has been generously funded by Charlee’s Run, The Miles P. Hammond Endowment, and their supporters.
“We cannot thank this community enough for always ensuring that the families who need these books the most never feel alone in their loss. That they know their losses mattered. That they are remembered,” Mallory Holmes said.” While these losses may still be quiet, a space like this ensures that there are always words and passages to help continue to break that silence.”
Thank you to the Charlee’s Run and Miles P. Hammond Endowment supporters for always ensuring that families never feel alone in their loss.
