A Clearer Vision for Emergency Care: How Donor Support is Enhancing Eye Health at OSMH

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) has upgraded its emergency eye care with the acquisition of a new iCare IC100 tonometer. The device is already making a meaningful difference in the Emergency Department, empowering physicians to diagnose and manage eye conditions with greater speed, accuracy, and confidence.

The tonometer is used to measure intraocular pressure (IOP). This is a critical diagnostic indicator for conditions such as glaucoma, ocular trauma, and other eye emergencies. Unlike traditional methods that can be uncomfortable or require anesthetic drops, the iCare IC100 has a gentle, quick, and reliable measurement process that is ideal for emergency situations. These enhancements are especially helpful when caring for children or patients with sensitive eyes.

For ER doctors and ophthalmologists at OSMH, this means faster assessments, more accurate diagnoses, and better-informed treatment decisions. The new tonometer allows clinicians to quickly rule out or confirm serious eye conditions, reducing unnecessary delays and contributing to improved patient outcomes.

The new tonometer in the OSMH Emergency Department was made possible entirely through donor contributions. Through the community’s support, our OSMH care teams have access to state-of-the-art tools to ensure continuous, advanced care close to home.

“Thanks to your generosity, we can continue our mission of delivering the best possible care to those in need,” says Joice Antony, Program Manager of the Emergency Department at OSMH. “This tonometer is already proving to be an invaluable asset in our department.”

Every donor who contributed to this purchase by supporting the Infinite Possibilities Fund has played a part in enhancing the quality of care at OSMH. We are sincerely grateful for your support and your contribution to enhancing hospital services.
