McGregor on The Water Pledges $20,000 to Match Giving Tuesday Donations

This story was written by Lauran Sabourin and originally appeared in OrilliaMatters.

When it comes to showing gratitude, Doug and Linda Csumrik, along with their daughters Erin and Laura have taken theirs to an inspiring new level. When the Csumriks think of Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital they see a place filled with life-saving miracles and compassionate care, one that has been pivotal in their family’s most emotional moments. The couple’s three children Erin, Laura, and Andrew were born there, while their grandchildren received life-saving care at OSMH.

This “Giving Tuesday”, December 3rd, the Csumriks, who own McGregor on the Water, a full-service marina located in Washago are turning their gratitude into action, matching donations made to the hospital up to $20,000. Their gesture is a heartfelt “thank you” for the exceptional care their family received by the staff in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and in the pediatric unit.

A family’s journey
Doug and Linda’s twin granddaughters, Cali and Logan, were born prematurely at 33 weeks and spent more than a month in the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Linda says, “They saved my grandchildren’s lives.” The tiny girls, who were born in October 2021, were nurtured with expert care and compassion. The twins’ parents Laura and Brian were deeply moved by the staff’s relentless commitment to ensure their daughters had the best possible start in life by supporting Cali and Logan through those fragile early weeks. Erin Csumrik Shaw says, “It was a great comfort to my sister Laura to be there and for her and the twins to be cared for very well.”
Erin’s daughter Quinn at one point, also needed care in the pediatric unit. Erin says, “No one wants their child to need to be admitted to hospital but knowing the level of care my daughter received at Soldiers, is reassuring.” The pediatric staff put Quinn on the path to recovery and gave Erin peace of mind knowing that her daughter was in excellent hands. Erin adds, “Because of the compassionate care we received, the OSMH Foundation is a charity that is near and dear to our hearts.”

Matching every gift with love
To demonstrate their gratitude, the Csumriks have pledged to match every dollar donated to OSMH Foundation on “Giving Tuesday”, doubling the impact of each contribution up to $20,000. They’re doing it in the name of their business, McGregor on the Water Marina, as a tribute to their hardworking employees and loyal customers who embody the same community spirit. Doug says, “At McGregor on the Water, our team is like family. We wanted to extend this matching initiative to reflect the values of our business and to show our appreciation for the incredible people we work with every day.”

A ripple effect of generosity
Giving Tuesday is a day when communities come together to support causes that have meaning to them. By matching donations, the Csumriks hope to inspire others to give generously, knowing their contributions will go twice as far in supporting the vital programs at OSMH.
Every matched dollar will strengthen critical areas like the NICU, Pediatric Care, Kidney Care, Regional Cancer Centre Satellite Clinic, Regional Women and Children Program, and other essential services that ensure families throughout North Simcoe and Muskoka, from Alliston to Huntsville, Haliburton to Collingwood receive the best care possible. For the Csumriks, it’s about creating a ripple effect of compassion that touches countless lives.

Make a contribution
The Csumriks’ generosity is a shining example of how personal gratitude can fuel community support. Their matching pledge invites the community to contribute to OSMH which means so much to so many. Linda says, “Whether it’s $10 or $1,000, every donation matters. Together, we can make a difference.” Donations from the community will support areas of greatest need at OSMH. Joanna Gray, Director, Campaigns & Major Gifts, at OSMH Foundation says, “Your donation will enhance regional patient programs by investing in state-of-the-art technology, replacing and upgrading equipment, and providing further training support for our care teams. We need the community’s help to keep advanced critical care, close to home and deliver the best outcome for patients and their families.”

This Giving Tuesday, December 3rd, join the Csumriks in celebrating the care and dedication of the exceptional staff at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital. With their matching pledge, your donation will help more families like theirs find comfort and healing when they need it most.
