New Drills Bring Better Visibility and Less Invasive Ear Surgeries
Thanks to the support of our generous donors, the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Surgical program has recently purchased two new ear drills.
Dr. Greg Price-Jones, an Otolaryngologist at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, uses this drill to remove bone and build-up from the ear canal to help patients with chronic ear infections, hearing troubles, and ear drums in need of repair. The drill helps to open up the ear to allow better visibility and access to treat the infected area.
This equipment purchase replaces an older, aging model that can no longer be serviced. With the purchase of two drills, Dr. Price-Jones can now perform two of these procedures during his scheduled days in the Operating Room.
“The drill takes four hours to properly clean and sanitize, so having two drills means that I can now support more patients with this procedure”, Dr. Price-Jones said.
The drill allows Dr. Price-Jones to do more ear surgeries through the ear canal, which is less invasive than entering behind the ear and does not visually scar. He is the only surgeon in the Simcoe-Muskoka region who performs these procedures and patients travel from as far away as North Bay for their operation.
Dr. Price-Jones is also a longtime supporter of Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital and understands the importance of supporting local healthcare. “I like to donate because it’s our community hospital. It’s where our friends and our family go when they need care”, he said.
“Donations to Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital help to show our care providers that people appreciate the quality of services here and allow us to offer a larger variety of services than a traditional hospital of our size would.”
On behalf of Dr. Price-Jones and the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital team, we would like to thank our donors for providing support to our hospital and helping to enhance patient care for generations to come.
