The first Sunshine Super Wash for Soldiers’ Charity Car Wash and BBQ was an astounding success, raising $4,080.65 for the Hospital.
More than 250 car washes were sold during the event held Saturday, September 21st. Ten dollars from each wash was kindly donated by Sunshine to the Hospital Foundation. The onsite BBQ, hosted by Abel Taxi, raised $500. Volunteers collecting money in donation buckets during the day raised close to $1,000 from car wash patrons.
“We are so pleasantly surprised by the turnout and the generosity of our community,” said Marina Genua, Development Officer, OSMH Foundation. “More than 250 people came out on a beautiful sunny Saturday to show their support for our Hospital. Thanks to the Hewett Family at Sunshine Super Wash, John Beck and his crew at Able Taxi and the volunteers who donated their time to help it run smoothly, this event was a big success!”
Also contributing to the success of the event was the Orillia Fire Department, which was on hand to give tours of one of their fire trucks between calls, a local race car driver who showed off his race car and Pure Country radio who kept the tunes pumping throughout the day.
“We’ve had charity car washes before, but this was our best yet,” said Ted Hewett, owner of Sunshine Super Wash. “When the event benefits the Hospital, the community is eager to come out to support a cause that serves us all,” he added. “We look forward to doing it all again next year with the goal of raising $5,000 and to celebrate our 50th year in Orillia!”
