Orillia’s Army Navy & Air Force Unit donated $3,000 to pastoral care for patients with military service at Soldiers’. The gift is a result of ongoing fundraising events held throughout the year by the 400 Unit. Money raised through dart games, bake sales, dinners, and general donations allow the club to donate close to $60,000 back to the community annually, including to the Hospital.
“Our veterans and military service members are an integral part of our Soldiers’ community and we want to make sure we serve them well while they are in our care,” explained Kristen Dawson, Manager of Patient Experience at Soldiers’. “The ANAF’s commitment to giving back to their community helps our patients receive the resources and support they need to thrive.”
This generous $3,000 gift is part of the Army Navy & Air Force – Unit 400’s $10,000 pledge towards pastoral and spiritual care at the Hospital. This brings the group’s total lifetime donation amount to over $21,000.
“We can’t thank the Orillia Army Navy & Air Force Unit enough for their ongoing support of our Hospital and community,” said Lisa Wanamaker, OSMH Foundation Development Officer. “This donation will help us provide meaningful care to the veteran and active service member patient population at Soldiers’.”
Last year, the ANAF’s donation supported staff awareness initiatives to improve the identification of patients and family members of those who served in the military. Their support has also helped purchase multi-cultural books of faith and furniture for the Hospital’s worship centre, provided support for Orillia District Association of Churches’ presentations and for pastoral care volunteers at Soldiers’.
